Our first experience of the year will surely be a magnificent one as we explore a new cuisine that most of our Crew probably never heard of before. Peranakan cuisine. Also known as Nyonya cuisine, this type of food is the result of blending Chinese ingredients with various distinct spices and cooking techniques used by the Malaysian and Indonesian community that is similarly tangy, aromatic, spicy and herbal. Taking us on this amazing food journey is the newly opened Kapitan restaurant, located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Kapitan serves a likeness of food from Malaysia, and if the cuisine is anything like Serai, their Malaysian sister restaurant in Logan Square, then we’re in for a real treat! Our Crew will indulge a Peranakan tasting menu that will help their tastebuds explore new Asian flavors. We’ll also learn more about the Peranakan and Malaysian cultures as we interact with the Kapitan owner and chef.
